Privacy window film comes in all shapes and sizes. In fact, the available array of options is quite remarkable. Whatever your needs may be, you can almost certainly find the right option of privacy film. But there are some facts you should know before you make your final selection.

Moreover, privacy film for large windows can be a different ballgame entirely. Depending on your needs and the types of windows or glass you already have in place, there may be limitations. This is what you need to know.

Privacy film specifications

You may not know that window film comes in rolls – sort of lack wrapping paper. In general, those rolls are 60 inches wide. However, some options are available in 48 to 50 inches, particularly if those are specialty films. Most rolls average approximately 98 feet in length.

Privacy window film with stripes has lines running the length of the roll. In general, print direction runs down the roll length of the film for most designs. However, print direction runs across the roll width of the film for most Gradations and Border designs. This can affect the application process or pricing if you prefer the print in a different direction.

There are numerous options available to choose from with varying attributes:

As you may have determined from the list above, privacy films have different purposes. Some are exclusively meant to provide privacy. Others are decorative. Dry erase privacy film acts as a dry erase board so that you may utilize a glass or even a standard wall space for execution. Smart film provides an LCD screen for presentations to be projected directly onto your wall of glass.

Privacy window film limitations

The limitations come in when considering the type of glass you want to apply privacy window film to, as well as what type of window you have. When using single-pane windows, there are no limitations regarding privacy window film. In contrast, when you are implementing double pane windows with privacy film, there are.

These concerns are not an issue in the interior of an office building. The reason is, that you don’t have to take into consideration solar heat absorption, also known as opacity, which is the extent to which a window or glass absorbs heat. That is an exterior window or glass door issue alone.

Dual-pane and dual-pane laminate windows will need to be evaluated for solar absorption prior to application. If the dual-pane glass is tested and the opacity (solar absorption) is too high, then the glass may not be able to be treated at all. It may help to think of it this way, a single pane window is like wearing a white t-shirt in the sun while a dual-pane window is comparable to wearing a black sweatshirt in the sun. Those dual panes can double the amount of opacity.

Privacy Possibilities abound with Window Film

The possibilities with privacy window film are both purposeful and design-oriented. If you want to beautify an office space – done. If you want to add privacy to any room, or even the entire building – no problem. Need to turn a glass wall in the boardroom into an LCD screen? No problem!
