What Is 3M One Way Mirror Film and What Are Its Specifications?

By | safety & security Films, Solutions, window film | No Comments

Today’s commercial building design focuses on large, open areas and workspaces, but sometimes building aesthetics get in the way of business needs – specifically the need for privacy. Though modern retail stores, hospitals, government buildings, and schools tend to feature an open look, their employees, customers, and students still need privacy to ensure security and confidentiality.

3M One Way Mirror Film offers specifications that provide an elegant solution to the question of how to increase privacy in an open space. That’s why building managers are increasingly choosing to install 3M Mirror Film in their locations.

What Is 3M One Way Mirror Film?

Part of the 3M privacy film line, 3M Mirror Film covers your interior glass to provide a highly reflective, mirror-like appearance

In addition to improving privacy, 3M One Way Mirror Film enhances safety and security throughout a commercial building, delivering the look and results you want at a fraction of the cost of new glass.

It’s important to note that the physics of mirrored film means that it always requires a light differential (it must be brighter on the outside than it is on the inside), so you’ll want to work closely with a mirror film installation expert to choose the best areas for your 3M Mirror Film.

3M Mirror Film Specifications

Curious to know the exact specs on 3M’s mirrored privacy film? As usual, the experts at NGS have got you covered.

If these stats have got you scratching your head, here’s what that says in layman’s terms

3M Mirror Film’s light transmission qualities help boost the lighting differential needed for mirrored film to work well in a range of settings, and its reflective qualities make it hard to see into a mirrored area – but easy to see out. The film is fog-free, providing for crystal-clear visibility, and its thickness provides admirable durability paired with a fast cure time.

How to Use 3M Mirror Film

Like all 3M window and glass films, 3M Mirror Film is flexibly crafted to fit a range of applications. However, most building managers tend to use 3M One Way Mirror Film in three ways:

  1. Security Areas – In retail, office, and government buildings, fully mirrored walls and areas help conceal security guards. Visitors can’t see in, but security has a clear view out and can act quickly when the need arises. In schools, it also allows children to shelter in place in a locked, dark classroom while an active shooter is loose in a lit hallway – not allowing the shooter to see in from the hallway side of the glass.
  2. Privacy Zones – In banks, schools, hospitals, and many office buildings, certain departments tend to work with more sensitive data. This film’s mirrored effect helps secure those areas from prying outside eyes, while maintaining spatial aesthetics for those inside the mirrored area.
  3. Modern Offices – The increasing trend toward co-working spaces and shared workstations in modern office buildings means meetings can take place anywhere in the building. Savvy building managers support this trend with 3M Mirror Films cut into decorative patterns, which supply privacy throughout an open office space without breaking the flow of the floorplan.

5 Unexpected Recurring Benefits of Window Film

By | decorative films, safety & security Films, Solar control Films, Solutions | No Comments

We all know that window film reduces heat and glare, and also saves significantly on HVAC costs, but what most people don’t realize is that window film provides a wide range of benefits to businesses and their buildings.

In no particular order, here are just five of the benefits that we came up with.

  1. Lowered Inventory Replacement Costs

You’ve seen those companies that have unsightly, cracked, faded, and worn-out merchandise on display. And you don’t want to be one of them. That’s why you rotate your stock, cover your display windows, and replace inventory. Often.

Inventory replacement costs add up, especially for your stores in sunshiny states like Arizona and California, so you’ll be relieved to hear that solar window film blocks nearly 100% of UV rays from getting inside your store and harming your merchandise.

  1. Improved Health

We’ve all heard the advice from the Skin Cancer Foundation: wear sunscreen even on cloudy days, and reapply your sunscreen every few hours. But no one thinks to wear sunscreen indoors near a window, which is why the Skin Cancer Foundation also recommends using solar window film for your building.

Window film doesn’t have to be tinted to protect your—and your employees’—health. In fact, crystal clear films keep your building looking attractive and provide necessary UV protection to keep everyone safe.

  1. Increased Employee Productivity

This time of year can be very difficult for employees because the shorter days mean that they come to work in the dark, and they leave in the dark too. Studies prove that employees work better with natural light than with artificial light (and artificial light costs a lot too), so maximizing the little sunlight we have at this time of year is a good idea.

With Daylight Redirection Film, a high-tech type of window film manufactured with micro-planes like tiny prisms inside it, light will be redirected away from the floor and towards the ceiling. This extends light further into the room to keep natural light on your employees for more of their day.

  1. More Attention on Your Building

There’s nothing that says “out of date” like bronzed window film, and there’s nothing that says “low cost” like a facade filled with thousands of unsightly and crooked venetian blinds. Studies show that people really dislike ugly, boring structures, so updating your building with window film is sure to get you more positive attention.

In addition to the typical mirrored films building managers often use to modernize their windows, there are also video projection films, smart glass installations that change from frosted to clear at the tap of your smartphone screen, and anti-graffiti films that make it easy to keep all your glass beautiful at all times.

  1. Better Warmth

People often think of window films as a heat-reduction measure, but they don’t often realize that effective film can keep cold air out too!

Like a cozy, clear sweater for your windows, Low Emissivity films (called “Low E” for short) insulate your windows year round, keeping your building occupants comfortable and reducing wear and tear on your heating and cooling systems. These next generation Low E films can stop up to as much as 42% heat loss associated with the glazing.

What Does Your Building Need?

Remember, this is only a short list out of the many cost-saving improvements that window film brings to your building. Your company will probably experience even more benefits than this.

With installation from NGS Films and Graphics that works around your schedule, there’s no reason you should deny yourself the pleasure that window film can bring to your organization. This year, it’s time to give yourself the gift that keeps on giving for years to come: window film.

DINOC & Belbien: The “eco” Architectural Solution

It’s tempting to tear down and start over, but budget and operations considerations can put a damper on demo. With LEED considerations thrown in the mix, improving the appearance of spaces large and small demand a better alternative. Enter DINOC and Belbien architectural laminate—an excellent “eco” alternative.

Architectural laminates are a textured, hefty 8 millimeters thick vinyl and come in more than 400 style variations from wood grain, fabric, and metallic to stucco, stone, and others. Thanks to their high-tech adhesion and flexibility, transforming any smooth surface is possible, even areas with complex curves.

NGS has been using this dynamic, indoor/outdoor material for several years now with great success. One of our largest projects involved refreshing ten thousand square feet within the Dallas Convention Center.

Washington DC jeweler, IGorman, also needed a fresh take on its aging facade. The company selected a wood grain that matched the original. The end results? Both the finish and the final cost were a sight to behold. Said NGS Managing Partner, James Beale, “The store was completely overhauled with a stunning new & modern look for a fraction of the cost of replacing the original facade substrate.”

NGS transforms clear glass into high-def LCD screens

By | Architect or Engineer, Commercial Property Owner, Customers, ESCO, Government, HealthCare, Hospitality, Marketing Agency, News, Property or Facilities Maintenance, Solutions | No Comments

It only looks like magic: NGS transforms clear glass into high-def LCD screens.

With the click of a button — or a tap on your iPhone  — you can change a clear pane of glass into a frosted, privacy barrier. Even more impressive? Turning that clear pane of glass into an LCD screen to show a high definition video. Your audience will be amazed. And why wouldn’t they be? It’s the stuff of the future yet it’s available today thanks to National Glazing Solutions, a true innovation leader in the film and glazing industry.

This next-generation electrochromic film, can be retrofitted on existing glass and is 100% compatible with smart home automation systems. Additionally, it blocks up to 87% of Infrared and up to 98% of  UV rays. Of course you know what that means: heating and cooling bills are reduced. According to the US Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), a building could save up to a whopping 8% of its energy if electrochromic film is used on its windows. Aiding in the cost-savings is the tiny amounts of electricity used to switch windows on and off. For example, 100 windows use approximately the same amount as one incandescent bulb. That’s a very big savings.

So just how does our electrochromic film work? A quick talk with one of our engineers will tell you electrochromic film is like building a sandwich of sorts. It’s constructed like this: On the inside surface — which points into the building — is a glaze of five super thin layers of chemicals. In the middle is a separator, which has two electrodes on each side. On top of those are electrical contacts. When a tiny charge is applied, ions travel from the separator to outer electrodes and reflect light to create the frosted appearance.

Now, if you want to know how we transform clear glass into a video display, well, that will take a lot longer than we have here. But still, it’s really cool, right?

Solar Films

Why No Building Should Be Without Sunscreen

By | Architect or Engineer, Commercial Property Owner, Customers, Education, Energy modeling, ESCO, General contractor, Government, HealthCare, Hospitality, News, Property or Facilities Maintenance, Solar control Films, Solutions | No Comments

Why No Building Should Be Without Sunscreen

If you’re unwittingly letting your building fry like a lobster, that’s your business. Slathering it up with sun protection is ours. Here’s why it matters. According to the International Window Film Association (IWFA), window film can stop more than 80% of the solar energy coming through windows, with up to a 30% reduction in cooling costs and some films up to 30% reduction in heat loss in the winter.. The IWFA notes that window film can even save seven times each dollar spent on replacement windows.

More than 250 window films have even been certified by the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) for energy efficiency. (“Fenestration” means an opening in a building—basically, windows, doors and skylights). The NFRC is the same independent, nonprofit organization that rates glass windows. Ratings take into account factors including energy absorption, solar heat gain, air leakage and resistance to condensation.

As if energy savings weren’t a good enough reason for solar-savvy window film, this “sunscreen” also means:

  • UV protection for the people inside
  • Fewer hot spots
  • Less glare
  • Reduced fading of furniture, carpeting and artworks

According to James Beale, managing partner and vice president of sales for NGS, “Solar considerations have emerged as a major factor for our clients in weighing their window film options. Energy costs and ways to mitigate them should really be on every client’s window solution check list.”

Beale also pointed out that many clients have been taking their solar solutions to the next level with specialty solar-control window films in a variety of categories. These include traditional reflective, ceramic ultra-blocking, and spectrally select for preserving the highest degree of natural daylight.

NGS installs 3M security film for an international developer’s marquis property in Atlanta

So who’s the developer, and what’s the property? We’d tell you, but we’d have to kill you. As a leader in the commercial window film industry, NGS takes security seriously.

According to the latest crime reporting available from the FBI, more than two million burglaries took place in homes and offices in 2009, costing nearly five billion dollars in lost property. Sixty percent of the burglaries in 2009 involved forcible entry. Between the year 2000 and 2009, burglaries increased more than seven percent.

According to James Beale, managing partner and vice president of sales for NGS, “Smash-and-grabs are of increasing concern among our clients across the U.S., and not just in major cities. We’re working with businesses of every size on solutions.”

The recently completed Atlanta security installation is 22,000 square feet, and the scopes include a custom integration of 3M SH14 interior security film and 3M IPA/ Impact Protection Adhesive wet glaze attachment, plus 3M 7mil exterior security film for force entry protection. Strong, micro-layered safety and security window films from 3M are designed to hold glass together in the event of a break, while allowing natural light to pass through and maintaining the appearance of an office. An added bonus is energy conservation and lower energy bills.

“Security considerations should really be a component of any commercial window film solution,” Beale said. “It’s like the insurance you’d get for your car and your home as a matter of course. A little forethought and a small investment in window ‘insurance’ can save untold expenses should there be a break-in.”

NGS is currenlty working with property managers and retailer around the US to install proven forced entry protection systems like TRI-SHIELD.

Aaron’s Rents Makes a Bold Move—and NGS Goes with Them

Aaron’s Rents is one of the largest rent-to-own retailers in the country, with more than 2,000 stores in 47 U.S. states and Canada. The furniture, electronics and appliances giant recently made the forward-looking decision to move from its headquarters of 55 years in the Atlanta Buckhead neighborhood to new headquarters in the Cobb Galleria.

Although the move is a pioneering one, Aaron’s won’t be alone. Many other companies based in Atlanta have considered re-locating from in-town neighborhoods to the Cobb Galleria due to sky-rocketing rents and worsening traffic. The Home Depot has already made the transition. These companies look to a better quality of life for employees with the development of the Braves SunTrust Park in Cobb county, which will be part of a new walkable, work-live-play community.

National Glazing Solutions was selected to provide the interiors package for Aaron’s Rents upgraded headquarters based on its strong track record of delivering outstanding solutions and services for new-fashioned HQ projects, including State Farm Insurance Co.

NGS project scopes at the new Aaron’s Rents headquarters include digitally printed wallcoverings, custom printed window films, dimensional signage, wayfinding graphics and Belbien wood-grain vinyl.

Wood-grain looks, in particular, have surged in popularity in 2016. According to managing partner and vice president of sales for NGS, “What’s old is new again. Wood-grain vinyl adds warmth and contrast to a modern office environment in a cost-effective, practical application that is both durable and easy to maintain.”

Window Film Building Rendering

Window Film Building Renderings, Seeing is Believing

Many commercial property owners and asset managers seek out energy retrofits for their properties and look to window film for one of those options due to the compelling ROI’s and ease of implementation. These same individuals also are concerned about how the building will look after you apply a window film retrofit. The energy efficiency team at National Glazing Solutions LLC understands this and thus why we have developed a window film building rendering capability. This capability allows us to demonstrate what the glazing might look like after an interior or exterior 3M window film retrofit has been applied. Commercial window film retrofits more often than not improve the appearance of a building by eliminating “patchy” looking facades by muting the effects of window treatments. Window films are being used more and more to create improved appearance as one of the primary objectives. Keep in mind there are many types of spectrally select window films that are virtually invisible on the glass and do not enhance or change the look of the glazing. These films are used to eliminate hot spots or reduce heat gain on south or west elevations only without changing the overall look of the building. Spectrally select films are also great options for historical buildings that cannot change the look of the facade.

NGS Heads to the SEMA Show to Bring Back the Latest in Film Applications

By | Architect or Engineer, Commercial Property Owner, Customers, Education, ESCO, General contractor, News, Solutions | No Comments

The SEMA Show is the most influential trade event in the world for manufacturers of automotive specialty products, including window films for tinting, security, storm safety, solar protection and printed graphics. More than 60,000 trade professionals are expected to attend the event November 3– 6.

Naturally, National Glazing Solutions (NGS) wouldn’t miss it. More than 2,000 new products will be debuted from more than 2,000 manufacturers, spanning a whopping million square feet in the massive Las Vegas Convention Center. 3M Window Film, Solar Gard and Madico will all be there in force.

According to James Beale, managing partner and vice president of sales for NGS, “It’s critical for us to soak up everything the SEMA show has to offer, so we can stay connected with ‘what’s next’ and bring the latest options back to our customers.”

In addition to new products, the SEMA Show hosts “Education Days”, which includes more than five dozen sessions on industry trends, breaking technologies and advancements in customer service.

“What we learn from these thought leaders is invaluable across all areas of our business,” Patrick Coyle, managing partner and vice president of operations for NGS, said. “We come back truly inspired, with ideas we can implement to improve our offerings to customers throughout the coming year.”

But SEMA isn’t all work. It wouldn’t be Vegas without a little time set aside for (industry-related) play. SEMA is known for its celebrity appearances, and 3M alone will be bringing along favorites from the Discovery Channel, including Chip Foose from “Overhaulin’” and Charley Hutton and K.C. Mathieu from “Fast N Loud”. Rutledge Wood from the History Channel’s “Top Gear” and “Lost in Transmission” will also be in attendance. VIP customer appreciation parties also come with the territory for companies like NGS.

NGS Named "UBER" of Window Film Industry

NGS Named “UBER” of Window Film Industry

By | Architect or Engineer, Commercial Property Owner, Customers, Education, ESCO, General contractor, Government, HealthCare, Hospitality, News, Property or Facilities Maintenance, Solutions | No Comments

National Glazing Solutions, the nationwide leader in window film solutions and installation, has been ranked again in the top window film dealers in the United States. The rankings were published in Window Film Magazine in September 2015 and NGS was ranked across all categories.

This is not the first time that NGS has been ranked in the top window film dealers in the United States. In September 2013 NGS also was also featured in the rankings as the number 1 commercial window film dealer in the United States. This time around, the firm was ranked number 1 for leanest operation.

Because of the success NGS has enjoyed, Window Film Magazine published an article alongside its rankings calling the company the “Uber of Window Film”  READ STORY HERE.  This comparison was drawn because of the incredibly successful way in which the company has implemented such a lean operation. The lean operation NGS has managed to implement is very similar to the taxi firm who have found worldwide success using subcontractors.

This business model has helped NGS to bring in $375,000 in sales per employee, over $100,000 per employee more than second place. The article paid tribute to the sophisticated infrastructure which allows the company to manage up to 50 installations a day, every day.

“But being the third-ranked top-selling (and leanest) film installation company in the U.S. isn’t just because of its sub-contractors,” said Window Film Magazine. “NGS also has a sophisticated infrastructure in place to manage a high volume of jobs.”

The infrastructure NGS has in place was put to good use recently, when they installed film on 1,500 banks from Maine to Miami in just one month. This demonstrates what a great infrastructure the company has to enable them to operate successfully from coast to coast.

NGS have many successes to shout about at the moment:

-The company has a bright future ahead with projected revenue up by 25% to $6 million in 2015

Multiple high profile corporate headquarter projects underway around the USA with new national accounts coming onboard every quarter

-In February this year NGS was recognized as Solar Gard’s “Panorama Dealer of the Year 2014”.

-NGS has also developed a proprietary anti-intrusion system designed for retail called Tri-Shield. A series of videos displaying the power of this system in action are available on the website.

– Industry leading education and training to establish modeling and installation standards

-NGS is also one of only a handful of window film companies to have been awarded a GSA contract.

GSA contract Number for NGS

GSA contract Number for NGS

-Uniquely, NGS is the only window film contractor in the United States to have in-house engineering for modeling buildings.

With all of this in mind, the future looks bright for NGS. James Beale, Managing Partner & VP of Sales said, “The company has the right resources and is focused on the right things. That makes all the difference in the world.”

National Glazing Solutions, LLC, is recognized as a nationwide leader in solar, security, specialty, and printed film solutions since 2009. They aim to provide quality installation services which meet their clients’ budget and project objectives. NGS has been recognized as the top commercial window film dealer in the United States in September 2013 and as running the leanest operation in September 2015.
