Glass. We have a love-hate relationship with it, don’t we? We love the light shining through, but we hate to clean it. Glass is great. Until it isn’t.

Most of us can agree, that it serves an important purpose in our lives. Glass is everywhere. But it also comes with a multitude of challenges, particularly when it comes to outside influences. Let’s explore glass protection film.

Glass Protection

When it comes to windows and doors, glass is a common component. We like the clean lines and aesthetic. But boy can it be a danger zone. Criminals love to bash glass before illegally entering a facility. Mother Nature rains down tornadoes, hurricanes, and other dangerous storms. And social unrest can yield brutal riots. Let’s face it – we need all the help we can get.

Windows and doors are commonly a part of destruction and replacement in the aftermath of such tumultuous circumstances. The good news is that we have solutions. Let’s take a look.

Safety and security film

There are numerous options in window glass protection film. 3M™ Safety and Security Window Films are one of them. This product affords property owners an extra layer of protection when it comes to unwanted entry or harm. Security films can’t completely prevent intrusions, but they do slow perpetrators down and allow more time for law enforcement to arrive on the scene.

More importantly, safety and security film prevents spall. When glass is shattered shards fly everywhere and can increase damage in inventory, as well as bodily harm. This “shrapnel” is referred to as spall and often does great damage. Utilizing a window film to hold it in place ensures that there is less property damage overall.

TRI-SHIELD™

TRI-SHIELD was introduced to the market by NGS in 2013. This security window film protects against scratching, graffiti, and acid etching. As vandalism has become a more common practice in the 21st century, many storefronts and businesses experience such abuse, and the results can be costly.

Created as “smash and grab” glass protection, TRI-SHIELD is a retrofit system that is proven to deter this crime. In fact, it meets stringent requirements for ASTM F1233 level 1.0 protection against physical attacks using weighted blunt objects. TRI-SHIELD can take a beating and keep on kicking.

Riot Glass®

Riot Glass has recently incurred an upgrade. Now we have Riot Glass® Armorplast™ II. This security window system has yielded remarkable results. Yet, when clients provided feedback, the manufacturers listened, and went to work.

Passing a series of tests, including hurricane winds and missile projectiles, Riot Glass – Gen II has solidified its place in the market. There is even an increase in noise mitigation. They also streamlined their application process, so that it takes less time to implement. But nothing beats its traditional endurance to riotous behaviors and violence, including bomb blasts. Even those standards were exceeded by increasing the thickness of the Armorplast™. Moreover, Riot Glass is virtually bullet resistant. You get a lot of bang for your buck here.

Ballistic Glass

Ballistic glass is often referred to as bullet-resistant glass. In fact, it is an extra layer of protectant that provides resistance to bullets and is very effective. It holds up well against various gunfire, but that doesn’t mean an intense attack with multiple, heavy artillery would prove uneventful. This is why it isn’t referred to as “bullet-proof.” However, it is impressive.

This protective security glazing product absorbs bullets, making it much more difficult to damage. During an active shooter scenario, ballistic glass can hold together in such a manner that the perpetrator is prevented from entering the building, and the people inside are spared harm from bullets.

Window and Glass Protection

Every business owner has their own set of challenges when it comes to protecting their property. Often those circumstances are determined by our climate or location. If you are on the coast, your priority may be storm protection. If you are in a large city, it’s probably riot protection. Whatever your needs may be, there is the right window protection to aid your efforts.
