The Brilliance of Smart Film

When you think of “smart”, what is the first thing that pops into your mind? Is it intellectual? Or maybe a tech gadget that is intuitive? We can all agree that smart typically means “ahead of the game”. So, how exactly is window glass film “smart”? That’s exactly what we want to tell you.

What is smart film?

First and foremost, smart film is a cool name for a rather genius product. It is also known as switchable film. In fact, it can switch plain glass into much more. To be exact, smart film is defined as polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC). “Huh?” Yea, we thought you might react that way. Let’s break it down further for you.

Polymer-stabilized liquid crystal is a thin composite film prepared from the homogenous mixture of LC and monomer. What is LC? Good question. LC is liquid crystals. When LC is combined with monomer, smart film is born.

Electric currents react with the PDLC to create an opaque appearance. It may best be described as frosted. The “smartest” part of this window film is that you can go back and forth – quickly, and with relative ease.

Likewise, you can program your smartphone to switch between the options, as well as utilize a simple wall switch. Essentially, your glass wall is “switched” from transparent glass to an opaque exterior for a more private experience. You can utilize this feature not just for meetings but also when you would prefer more or less lighting in the room.

Smart Film Attributes

Smart film is brilliant in its abilities.  Think of it as a window film with “extra”!

  • Privacy
  • Optimize space
  • Scratch resistant
  • Turns glass to LCD screen
  • Temperature control option available

Smart film brings a lot to the table. It provides optimal energy conservation and is constructed to last a lifetime. Indoor and outdoor grades are also available. Thus, you can use smart films for an entrance or storefront to garner less visibility for interior valuables.

Optimize Space

Offices often lose valuable square footage in their space when adding bulky constructed walls for individual office spaces. It is less intrusive to erect glass walls instead. This salvages valuable square footage and still provides the necessary privacy executives require. Glass “walls” can also add an elegant aesthetic to an otherwise generic or dated office experience. When utilizing smart film for your glass walls, you provide the necessary privacy while maintaining as much square footage as possible.

LCD screen

Another superb attribute of smart glass is the ability to transfer a video from your projector onto its surface for a larger picture. It’s ideal for conference rooms and formal presentations. Admittedly, this is a feature all “techies” will love.

Smart film is brilliant

This genius concept affords business owners numerous benefits in 21st-century style.  It is brilliant in appearance, function, and technology. Incorporating smart film in your office setting will allow you the maximum amount of privacy while taking up the minimum amount of space.
