Smart window film is one of the coolest inventions of the 21st century. With the flip of a switch, the tap of a phone application, or even a remote, you can turn a frosted milky film glass wall into an LCD screen. That screen is great for presentations or watching instructional videos. Moreover, it has a dual purpose.
Privacy. Most smart film window tint is a milky white. However, some variants come in grey or black. This coloration affords office spaces elegant privacy without implementing the cumbersome space of traditional walls.
How does smart window film work?
This product is filled with polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) molecules. Therefore, the product is also referred to as an electrochromic glass film. When the power is switched off the liquid crystal molecules are randomly oriented scattering light. This is what turns the film into a milky white, grey, or black. In contrast, when the electrical supply is switched on, the liquid crystal molecules align. This causes an incident light to pass through and the switchable Smart Film becomes transparent.
Smart film can be applied to any new or existing smooth glass surface. Typically, conference rooms have large glass partitions. But many offices are implementing glass partitions to save space. The application of smart window film tint affords both privacy and confidentiality. This is particularly beneficial for those scenarios in which discretion is required.
Smart film installation
Smart film is available in 2 installation types: non-adhesive and self-adhesive. Self-adhesive smart film is easily installed utilizing a peel-and-stick method. This is due to the self-adhesive backing. Furthermore, Smart Film has the ability to contour to the curves of various types of glass. The best part is it can be moved readily during an installation.
The second type of smart film is non-adhesive. 3M™, the leading window film manufacturer in the country, produces a double-sided clear VHB tape that is used for this installation process. It’s both effective and easy to use.
Both of these installation processes include a hard-wired system that provides electricity to the electrochromic glass film. Both self-adhesive and non-adhesive installation processes offer “privacy on demand”, a dimmable option, and extreme clarity. Furthermore, Smart Film is 100% compatible with smart home automation systems.
Smart glass film features
Smart film technology allows for instant privacy of windows on demand. Moreover, it offers the following benefits:
- Instant and precise privacy control.
- Can be used as a projection screen or whiteboard
- Smart Film blocks 98+% of damaging UV rays
- Eco-friendly product
- Exceptional optical qualities that reduce glare and eye strain
- Reduced fading of carpets, furniture, or valuable artwork
- High video contrast at any viewing angle and any illumination level
In addition to the above attributes of Smart Film, there are also control options that include:
- Motion Sensor
- Voice Control
- Light Sensor
Switchable window film
If you are in the market for privacy film, switchable window film is a great option. It’s less expensive than installing smart glass and you can add the film to portions of the glass partition versus the entire glass wall. In other words, if you only wanted to add it to the top half of the glass partition, you have that option.
Yet, it is so much more than “just” privacy film. Smart film innovation provides above-the-bar technology and too many attributes to count. If you want to add a “next level” layer to your office environment, Smart Film is it. It’s both multi-functional and high-tech.
